YHI (NZ) Ltd – Limited Warranty for Alloy Wheels

YHI (New Zealand) Ltd warrants that all alloy wheels distributed by YHI and sold through authorised New Zealand retailers are free from structural defects and manufacturing faults in materials and workmanship, when used under normal conditions and installed in accordance with the wheel manufacturer’s specifications.

Warranty Coverage

1. Structural Warranty:
Covers the structural integrity of the wheel for the lifetime of the original purchaser, provided the wheel is used under normal driving conditions and has not been subject to misuse or improper application.

2. Finish Warranty:
Covers defects in paint, powder coat, clear coat, or other surface finishes for a period of one (1) year from the date of retail purchase.

Proof of Purchase Required:
All claims must be supported by a valid invoice from an authorised New Zealand retailer, clearly indicating the purchase date, product details, and purchaser information.

What’s Not Covered

This warranty does not apply to wheels that become unserviceable or damaged due to:

Normal Wear and Tear:

  • Cosmetic deterioration from routine use, including:
    • Stone chipping, sandblasting, or road debris impact.
    • Fading, staining, or discolouration from brake dust, salt, or environmental exposure.
    • Surface abrasions or scuffing from cleaning tools or chemicals.

Installation and Handling Damage

  • Scratches, gouges, or finish damage caused during:
    • Mounting or dismounting tyres.
    • Improper use of tools or equipment.
    • Transport or storage mishandling.

Improper Use or Application

  • Use of wheels on vehicles for which they were not designed or rated.
  • Overloading or exceeding the wheel’s certified load rating.
  • Incorrect offset, bolt pattern, or centre bore selection.
  • Use with incompatible tyres, spacers, or hardware.

Impact and Road Hazard Damage

  • Damage resulting from potholes, kerbs, road hazards, or collisions.
  • Use in any Motorsport, Off-road or Track Day applications.

Modifications and Third-Party Interference

  • Wheels that have been:
    • Repaired, welded, or modified by third parties.
    • Refinished or repainted outside of manufacturer-authorised processes.

Environmental and Chemical Exposure

  • Corrosion or finish degradation due to:
    • Acidic or abrasive cleaners.
    • Harsh chemicals or solvents.
    • Improper storage or prolonged exposure to environmental conditions (example: Salt water, Sulphur, Lime or any other corrosive elements) .

Other Exclusions

  • Cosmetic blemishes reported more than 12 months after purchase.
  • Wheels purchased second-hand or from unauthorised sources.
  • Wheels fitted to vehicles with altered suspension geometry.
  • Any consequential damage, loss of use, or downtime.

Conditions & Limitations

If a wheel is found to be defective under the terms of this warranty, YHI (NZ) Ltd may, at its sole discretion:

  • Replace the wheel with an equivalent model
  • Reimburse the dealer a proportional value based on usage

This warranty does not cover:

  • Labour costs for removal, installation, balancing, or alignment
  • Loss of time, vehicle use, or incidental or consequential damages

Wheels submitted for inspection remain the property of the consumer until accepted for compensation. Once accepted, they become the property of YHI (NZ) Ltd. No dealer, agent, or representative is authorised to modify or extend this warranty.

This warranty does not override or replace the manufacturer’s warranty. It applies only within New Zealand.


Tyres

YHI (New Zealand) Ltd – Passenger, Recreational, Van and Light Truck Tyre Warranty

YHI (New Zealand) Ltd warrants that all new Passenger Car, Recreational, Van and Light Truck tyres distributed by YHI and sold through authorised New Zealand retailers are free from defects in design, workmanship, and materials, provided they are used under normal operating conditions and maintained in accordance with the manufacturer’s published safety and maintenance guidelines. 

Warranty Coverage and Duration 

A. Tyres sold within three years of manufacture
For new and unused tyres sold by an authorised New Zealand retailer and originally imported by YHI (NZ) Ltd within three years of the manufacturing date, warranty coverage applies until the original tread pattern is worn to the legal limit of (1.5mm excluding any tie-bar or tread depth indicator strip within all principal grooves that contain molded tread depth indicators and around the whole circumference of the tyre) or for a maximum of six years from the date of purchase—whichever occurs first.

B. Tyres sold more than three years after manufacture
For unused tyres sold by an authorised retailer more than three years after the manufacturing date, warranty coverage applies until the original tread pattern is worn to the legal limit or for a maximum of six years from the date of manufacture—whichever occurs first.

Once the applicable period under A or B expires, all express and implied warranties are deemed terminated.

Definition of Original Usable Tread Pattern
The original usable tread pattern refers to the tread depth down to 1.5mm excluding any tie-bar or tread depth indicator strip within all principal grooves that contain molded tread depth indicators and around the whole circumference of the tyre

 Proof of Purchase
The date of purchase must be evidenced by either:

  • The original vehicle registration (if tyres were fitted as original equipment on a New Zealand-new vehicle), or
  • A valid sales invoice from an authorised retailer showing purchaser details and date of purchase or fitting.

Warranty Exclusions

Tyres rendered unserviceable due to any of the following circumstances are excluded from warranty coverage:

  1. Damage from road hazards including cuts, tears, snags, bruises, impacts, or punctures.
  2. Incorrect fitting, mounting, wheel imbalance, or improper repairs.
  3. Under- or over-inflation, overloading, or poor maintenance (e.g., failure to check pressure, rotate tyres, or align wheels).
  4. Mechanical faults in the vehicle (e.g., misalignment, drivetrain issues) causing abnormal wear or noise.
  5. Noise, vibration, or harshness (NVH) not attributable to a manufacturing defect.
  6. Vehicle manufacturer settings that intentionally induce uneven wear for handling purposes.
  7. Damage from aggressive driving, excessive acceleration/deceleration, or use beyond adhesion or temperature limits.
  8. Use with incompatible valves, rims, or wheels.
  9. Fitment to modified vehicles resulting in abnormal wear.
  10. Tyres previously repaired by third parties.
  11. Tyres worn below legal limits of 1.5mm tread depth in any part of the usable tread.
  12. Use beyond the tyre’s rated load or speed index.
  13. Non-compliance with legal standards for road use.
  14. Second-hand or pre-owned tyres, including those on used or imported vehicles, or tyres lacking proof of authorised purchase and fitting.
  15. Tyres fitted or unfitted while in possession of a motor dealer.
  16. Improper storage, whether fitted or unfitted.
  17. Use contrary to manufacturer specifications or vehicle requirements.
  18. Damage from accidents, fire, chemical exposure, contamination, alteration, or vandalism.
  19. Tyres obtained via private sale or from unauthorised sources not affiliated with YHI (NZ) Ltd.
  20. Environmental effects including extreme temperatures, ozone exposure, or geographic/topographic conditions.
  21. Use in motorsport, off-road, or track-day activities—these are outside the scope of normal road use.

Note on Mileage Warranty:
Due to New Zealand’s diverse driving conditions, YHI (NZ) Ltd does not offer minimum or maximum mileage guarantees, even if such warranties exist in other regions on any specified brand or product.

Conditions and Limitations

If a tyre becomes unserviceable due solely to a condition covered under this warranty, YHI (NZ) Ltd may, at its discretion:

  • Repair the tyre,
  • Replace it with an equivalent product,
  • Reimburse the dealer a proportional value based on remaining tread depth, or
  • Offer another form of compensation in line with its current commercial policy.

This warranty does not cover:

  • Service charges (e.g., mounting, balancing),
  • Loss of time or vehicle use,
  • Inconvenience or consequential damages, to the extent permitted by law.

Tyres submitted to an authorised YHI (NZ) Ltd retailer for warranty consideration remain the property of the consumer until accepted for compensation, at which point they become the property of YHI (NZ) Ltd. YHI is not liable for loss or damage to tyres held by retailers for inspection. In case of dispute, the consumer must make the tyre available for further examination.

No retailer, representative, or employee of YHI (NZ) Ltd is authorised to modify or extend the terms of this warranty.

Except as expressly stated herein, all other warranties, guarantees, representations, or liabilities—whether express or implied—are excluded to the fullest extent permitted by law.

This warranty excludes service charges, downtime, or consequential loss. Tyres submitted for inspection remain the consumer’s property until accepted for compensation. No dealer or representative may alter this warranty.

This warranty does not override or replace any specific manufacturer’s warranty. It applies only within New Zealand.
